The Programme entails an integrated series of educational services and is an excellent opportunity for knowledge sharing and hands-on experience for organizers of future Paralympic Games and other major sporting events. It has been developed in close collaboration with the Rio Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Rio 2016), aiming to highlight Paralympic distinctive operations’ elements and to give Observers the opportunity to gain invaluable first hand experience and insight into various operational aspects of the Paralympic Games.

IPC is constantly striving to further enhance the content and quality of the Programme using modern and proven educational methods in each new edition. Based on the success of the previous IPC Observers’ Programmes and the valuable experiences gained in all these past editions, we have designed for Rio 2016 the most extensive Observers’ Programme held so far for Paralympic Games. Different types of Programme Activities will ensure that diverse individual needs will be met and that benefits of observation will be maximized.

Apart from the enhancement of the educational methods, the variety of themes has also been significantly increased throughout the years. The upcoming IPC Observers’ Programme in Rio 2016 will be the most extensive Observers’ Programme held so far for Paralympic Games, including 12 days of action and a total of 40 different activities for Event Organisers, such as:

  • Site visits, including all competition venues and the most important non-competition venues

  • Presentations from key Rio 2016 Managers and from IPC Advisors across a large variety of subjects.

  • An IPC Observers’ Manual to facilitate the observation.

  • Thematic sessions focusing on a client group experience or on a topic with significant Games management value, combined with relevant visits conducted in a suitable venue.

  • Informative workshops

  • Possibility to conduct own observations based on individual interests and needs, using access privileges.

  • Opportunities to meet members of other organizing committees and sports organizations, for networking and sharing experience and information.
